1/17- Journal: "Create Your Own Title" - Write about a defining moment in your life. This could be something that carries positive and/or negative emotions. It may have been an injury or illness that you had to overcome, or maybe the loss of a relationship that challenged you. It may have been a victory that showed your strength and perseverance. Think of a moment (this could have been in the course of days, weeks, months, or even years), which changed the trajectory of your life (for better or worse). Describe the moments within that stood our. Describe how you felt then and how your feel now. Describe who you were before and after this event. What have your learned from this time in your life? How would you change things that happened then or if as you face something similar in the future (if at all)?
1/23- Journal: "Atomic Goal Setting" - Write about two habits that you would like to gain, and write about two habits that you would like to change or get rid of. Consider at least one goal you have for yourself, which you hope to achieve in the next 5 years. Consider how the adoption of and/or removal of said habits can/may/will help you to achieve this goal. Describe why this goal is important to you and how you expect it to impact your life in a positive way (this may require more long-term goal setting as well). Finally, consider what it will take to achieve the habit changes you are looking to acquire. Based on the chapters you read with your group, reference one way that you plan to change at least one habit to achieve the goal you set for yourself.
1/24- Journal: "Cultural Values": 1.Values are defined as, "beliefs of a person or social group in which they have an emotional investment." Culture is defined as, "the complex and elaborate system of meaning and behavior that defines the way of life for a group or society." We see what is most important to us, as a culture or society, through music, fashion, literature, leisure activities, movies/TV, and the ways goods are advertised. Rarely, do we stop to think about that which we value as individuals or as a culture. Occasionally, our individual values fail to align with those of our society. Discuss some of your personal values, and then discuss some cultural values you can identify within the American culture we share. If you are part of another culture, feel free to discuss some values of that culture, especially those that may differ from the American cultural values you just listed.
